Challenge
The use of ultra-deep azimuthal resistivity (UDAR) and electromagnetic measurements (EM) is increasing in the drilling industry.
However, it remains a challenge to interpret these measurements quickly and accurately, as well as quantify the uncertainties involved.
Invention
We have developed an improved method for interpreting UDAR and EM data and quantifying geological uncertainty in real-time while drilling.
Value
The method will help better decisions during drilling and better well placement.
Status
- Proof of concept: Developed based on simplified geological settings.
- Collaborations: Working with leading research groups on formation evaluation at UT Austin, University of Stavanger, and involved industry operators.
- Promising results: Simulation results for field cases show significant promise.
Next steps
- Development and demonstration: Further develop the method and demonstrate its effectiveness on more realistic formations.
Possible commercialization options
- Available for Operators: The workflow will be accessible to operators for integration into their drilling operations.
- Integration: Potential integration into the workflows of major service providers.
